Master sommelier's notes
Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman of Domaine de la Côte and Sandhi in Santa Barbara County have become two of the strongest proponents of exceptional quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the United States. They are also two of the more controversial. In California, their work is strongly associated with the now retired provocative organisation 'In Pursuit of Balance' (IPOB). The idea led to anger from the California wine establishment, who were attached to defending balance in bigger-bodied, high alcohol wines.
The wines, which really are quite special, embody the philosophy of owners Sashi Moorman and Rajat Parr, which centres around freshness, vitality and balance. In the words of Jancis Robinson MW: "These are wines that eschew the heavy-handed, overripe approach of so many Californian producers. They are beautifully elegant, always refreshing and effortlessly drinkable."
