About the winemaker
Bodega Barranco Oscuro is an organic winery established in 1979 by Manuel Valenzuela high (very high!) in the Sierra de la Contaviesa Mountains of southern Andalucia. The vines are not treated with anything and in many places are simply allowed to grow how they naturally would, creeping over the rocky ground to shelter themselves from the wind instead of being trained up onto wires. Similarly, in the cellar, the grapes are allowed to ferment naturally without the addition of any yeasts or sulphur. These are absolutely unique expressions that present terroir first and foremost, ahead of any varietal characteristics.
